JMS’ Sheaffer explodes for 38; tops Thunder

BELLEVILLE – Juniata Mennonite’s Luke Sheaffer was a strong force in the middle as he torched the Belleville Mennonite defense for a game-high 38 points. He finished with a double-double as he also was able to pull down 16.

He was just one of two players who finished in double figures.

Teammate Trey Tusing was almost automatic from outside the three-point line, hitting three 3’s in a 15-point finish.Menendez the dust settled, the Lions would find themselves on the positive side of a 68-50 win.

Aiden Reed paced the Thunder with a 17-point performance.

His teammate Quinn Renno got a hot hand in the second half, posting 12 points in a losing effort.

Rounding out the top three scores for Belleville was Chris Stotzfus with nine.

The two teams battled from the very beginning with Juniata Mennonite jumping out to an early 8-2 advantage.

But the Thunder rumbled back into the contest on a rare 4-point play by Stotzfus.

Again on the sharp shooting by Tusing and Sheaffer, the Lions built back up a 16-9 lead.

With the score at 18-11, the Thunder once again came back to cut the game within three as the time ran out in the first.

Sheaffer took things into his own hands in the second as he contrilolled the boards and took over control of the middle, scoring 20 of this 38 in the period and extending the Lions lead to 34-23 as the two teams went into the intermission.

Trying to climb the mountain in the third, Belleville would slowly get the game back into a single-digit contest. Renno paced his team with eight points in the period.

However, JMS would still hold a 9-point advantage as the game went into the final stanza.

Sheaffer again went wild in the fourth, posting a 15-point period en route to the 14-point 68-50 victory.
