Juniata and Bellefonte battle to OT thriller; Indians survive for win
The Juniata boys basketball team heads into the Ram Winter Jam on a positive note as it defeated a feisty Bellefonte team Monday, 52-49 in overtime.
Juniata’s Emmanuel O’Donnell led the way offensively with a 17-point effort.
Teammates Jacob Condo and Max Lauver finished with nine points.
Ben McCartney led Bellefonte with a 17-point scoring effort while Logan Bernier chipped in with 10 to round out the double-digit scorers.
Bellefonte looked strong early, outscoring Juniata by an 11-6 margin.
However, the tables turned in the second period as the Indians posted an 11-7 period, trailing the Red Raiders by one, 18-17.
Like in the first quarter, Bellefonte was able to muscle out a lead in the third period, outscoring the Indians 11-9.
But the Juniata offense saved the best for last as the Indians outscored the Red Raiders by a 17-14 margin, sending it to overtime.
The overtime remained a close one as Juniata scored nine while Bellefonte had six, giving the Indians the hard fought victory.
