Juniata Baseball Falls After Strong Showing By Newport

The Juniata Indians baseball team had trouble keeping up with Newport in a 10-1 loss on Monday.
The Buffaloes got on the board in the top of the first inning after Landon Zaring singled to center field, Juniata Varsity Indians committed an error, and the Indians committed an error, each scoring one run.
Newport extended their early lead with four runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Zaring, Kevin Ruggles, and Landon Cigic.
Aden Banks earned the win for the Buffaloes. The starter allowed seven hits and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Daylyn Kennedy took the loss for Juniata. The hurler went one inning, surrendering six runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking two.
Caleb Auker led the team with one run batted in. Kennedy and Drew Geedey each collected two hits for the Indians.
Newport tallied 10 hits in the game. Zach Bates, Zaring, and Cigic each collected two hits for the Buffaloes. Ruggles and Zaring each drove in two runs for Newport. Ruggles stole two bases. The Buffaloes ran wild on the base paths, collecting five stolen bases for the game. Newport turned one double play in the game.
Next up for Juniata is a game against Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy on Wednesday.
