Juniata battles Selinsgrove in tough defensive effort, falls late

SELINSGROVE – Friday night the Juniata football team met up with a familiar foe from last year’s schedule, the Seals of Selinsgrove.

Looking to pick up a little revenge from last season, the Indians were primed and ready for the Friday prime time contest.

The game turned out to be a defensive battle that wouldn’t be decided until final minutes of the contest.

Selinsgrove outlasted the feisty Indians, holding onto the 14-6 win.

Juniata quarterback Wyatt Ehrenzeller had a sparkling opening night, passing for 18-of-21 for 138 yards, posting a QB rating of 116.8.

He found his favorite receiver Jasper Shepps 10 times on the evening for 85 yards. Shepps finished with 179 in total yards. He was bullish in the kick return game finishing with 71 yards.

Teammate Connor Boreman had a team high completion of 38-yard hook up from Ehrenzeller. Boreman finished with 51 yards receiving total. Boreman was also active on defense collecting an interception.

The running game was led by Javier Lopez who finished with 19 yards.

Selinsgrove opened the scoring in the game, posting a touchdown in the first quarter.

Ethan Miller scampered into the endzone breaking lose on a 38-yard run. With the Noah Walter kick.

From there both defenses took over as both kept their opponent off the board until the final stanza.

Trailing in the final stanza, the Indians refused to go down without a fight as they marched their way down field and cut the Seals lead to 7-6.

Ehrenzeller hooked up with Shepps from 12 yards out for the score.

Not wanting to just tie, Juniata went for two and it came up short with their pass was incomplete.

Selinsgrove kept the a stranglehold on the lead and scored one last time as they went on a late scoring drive as Gavin Bastian ended the game scoring with a 9-yard run. With the Walter kick, Selinsgrove finished the game as the 14-6 victors.

Juniata will be back in action, returning home to battle Steel High.
