Juniata boys cruise past Newport

The Juniata boys basketball team improved to 9-3 on the season as it defeated Newport 67-31 Tuesday.

G.G. Ortiz led the contest with 23 points and five assists.

Manny O’Donell rounded out the scoring with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Jace White, Jacob Condo, and Max Lauver rounded the scoring with eight points each.

Defensively, the Indians held the Buffaloes to just single digit scorers.

In the first period, Juniata made a statement as the exploded for a 19-9 period.

The Juniata offense went from sizzling to down right on fire in the second, posting 26 points.

Defensively, the Indians held Newport to only seven.

Going into the second half, Juniata held a convincing 46-16 advantage.

Not much changed as the two came out for the third quarter when the Indians again finished in double digits with a 17-7 performance.

As the game went into a mercy rule scenario, Juniata rounded out the win with a 5-8 period, winning 67-31.
