Juniata boys explode in final stanza; drops Newport

Juniata 55, Newport 34

Juniata’s Jamie Bailor had the hot hand Tuesday as he helped lead his team to a convincing 55-34 victory over Tri-Valley League foe Newport.

He also had some help from teammates Jace White (10) and Emmanuel O’ Donell (9).

Bailor pulled the trigger on five 3-pointers to lead the game in scoring.

The Indians broke open a close contest in the final stanza, getting hot when it mattered outscoring the Buffaloes 21-4. O’Donell led the scoring with a 6-point effort.

In the first, the game was a Nick-and-tuck battle with the Indians coming out by an 12-11 margin.

The second quarter proved to be just as close as the two defenses held it to a 10-8 Juniata advantage.

Going into the half, the Indians led 22-19.

Again, the two battled back and forth and it would be “Big Red” that again would outscore the Buffaloes, this time it would be a 12-11 advantage.
