Juniata Boys take two wins and Girls Fall Short

The Juniata Junior High boys and girls cross country teams competed at Mifflin County on Thursday, October 9 against Mifflin County and Susquenita.  The boys and girls competed together at the meet that started at 4:30.  Seventh grader Evan Yackey took the overall win in a time of 11:19.  He was then followed by eighth grader Matthew Corman in 4th place in a time of 12:07.  The Indians then had a pack of 3 athletes finish together.  The 3 were led by eighth grader Elliott Miller in 7th place with a time of 12:55, seventh grader Landon Miller in 8th place with a time of 12:57, and seventh grader Austin Phillips in 9th place with a time of 12:58.  Other Indian boys were eighth grader Alex Copenheaver in 16th place with a time of 14:10, eighth grader Andy Rutherford in 18th place with a time of 14:45 and seventh grader Mason Hardin in 20th place with a time of 17:35.  Boys won against Mifflin County 26 – 33 and also won against Susquenita 18 – 37.  Coach Miller said “I am very proud of how the boys ran tonight.  They all ran personal best times for this course from their BVI times.  In addition to running a course personal best, some of them also had overall personal best times for this distance.  Austin and Mason ran huge personal best times.  I am excited to see what they run at the PA Middle School Championships in a week from this Saturday
In the girls race, eighth grader Hannah Wirt was the first for the Indians in 5th place with a time of 13:44.  Moirah Doydora was next for the Indians in 8th place in a time of 14:06. Shortly behind was eighth grader Aubrey Fogle in 9th place with a time of 14:24 and eighth grader Sophia Laub in 10th place with a time of 14:37.  Rounding out the scoring for the Indians was eighth grader Claire Ciarrocchi in 15th place with a time of 15:13.  Other Indian girls were eighth grader Charlotte Barner in 16th place with a time of 15:29, Eowyn Rendall in 17th place with a time of 15:44, eighth grader Ella Snyder in 18th place with a time of 15:49, eighth grader Juliet Heidenreich in 19th place with a time of 15:59, eighth grader Adi Peck in 20th place with a time of 17:06, and eighth grader Avery Mitchell in 21st place with a time of 17:12.  The girls lost to Mifflin County 23 – 32 and to Susquenita 25 – 30.  Coach Miller said “Most of the girls ran personal best times for this course from their BVI times.  Like the boys, some of them also had overall personal best times for this distance.  The girls ran with heart tonight, but came up short of getting any wins.  I am still proud of how they ran and excited to see how they improved throughout the season.  Moira is coming back from an ankle injury that is still bothering her some, but she ran tough and was able to improve her time on this course from the BVI meet.  The girls will also be running at the PA Middle School Championships on Saturday, October 18.  I can’t wait to see how they run at the Championship meet.”
