Juniata Christian sweeps Belleville Mennonite

MCALISTERVILLE – Anson Portzline is getting all so closer to making history as he led the Juniata Christian Lions to victory over the Belleville Mennonite Thunder by the final score of 7-1 in an Allegheny Christian Athletic Association boys soccer game Tuesday.

Heading into the game Anson had a career total of 91 goals, inching closer and closer to not only having a 100 career goals. But also closer to the county record in career goals which is 106 goals.

Anson scored the first goal of the game in just a couple of minutes with an assist from little brother Avery to put the Lions up 1-0.

Then a little while later, Juniata Christian again stormed the Belleville net and Owen Yorks was able to slip through and used his head to extend the lead to 2-0.

Yorks then joined in on the action in helping Anson in his quest to 100 to send Juniata Christian into the break with a 3-0 goal.

Anson then scored his third goal of the match on a Penalty Kick to give the Lions a 4-0 lead.

The Thunder were not going to go away quietly as Drew Mirello found an open Samuel Stoltzfus to score their only goal of the game.

Anson then added both his fourth and fifth goals back to back with the first being a Penalty Kick and then the other from an assist from brother Avery.

Avery Portzline then assisted on the final goal of the game which was scored by Yorks.

Juniata Christian is now (4-1) and Belleville Mennonite (2-3).

MCALISTERVILLE – Juniata Christian defeated rival Belleville Mennonite in Allegheny Christian Athletic Association girls soccer action on Tuesday.

The Lions came out firing on the offensive side of the ball where they scored six goals in the first half. Four of those goals were from both Annika Martin and Peyton Burd.

Martin with an assist from Erin Sheaffer scored the first goal with a little over ten minutes into the game. Nearly ten minutes later, Juniata Christian would strike again as Lydia Goodling would find Reanna Hoover to put the Lions up 2-0.

Martin again made her presence felt, this time being the contributor and found an open Peyton Burd who proceeded to knock in the goal. Burd paid Martin back on the next goal to make it a 4-0 Juniata Christian lead.

The Burd sisters connected as Reagan Burd moved the ball over to her older sister Peyton to give her, her second goal of the match. Goodling then added a goal of her own to make it 6-0 at the break.

Erin Sheaffer got the ball rolling in the second half for Juniata Christian thanks to some help from Martin. Martin then later on gave an assist to Peyton Burd for a goal before her sister Reagan scored the final goal of the game with an assist from Brinley Seler.

Juniata Christian is now (3-2) and Belleville Mennonite (2-2).
