Juniata College falls to John’s Hopkins

HUNTINGDON – It was not the way that Juniata College wanted it to go as they welcomed the number 21 ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays into Chuck Knox Stadium with their high powered offense leading to a 77-0 victory in a Centennial Conference football game on Saturday.
The Blue Jays had a 35-0 lead going into the break and already had just over 400 yards of total offense in the first half only. Juniata on the flip side had just 28 plays for 72 yards of total offense.
But Johns Hopkins did not seem satisfied with their as they put up even more numbers in the second half than they did in the first half. The Blue Jays would add on 42 more points to complete the rout.
The Blue Jays were led by their one, two punch combo in quarterback Ryan Stevens and wide receiver Harrison Wellmann.
Stevens completed 24 of 36 passes for 358 yards and had thrown three touchdown passes. Stevens also carried the ball twice for just 14 yards. Backup quarterback Bay Harvey then finished off the game with two touchdown passes and completed six of eight passed from the field for a total of 120 yards.
Wellmann made 10 catches for a total of 142 yards and caught two touchdown passes. Fellow receiver Quinn Revere also went over a 100 yards in the game with 112 on just six catches and collected two touchdowns. Ryan Hubley was the third wide receiver to go over 100 yards receiving with 101on just seven catches.
The Blue Jays also scored six touchdowns on the ground with five different players in the game. Spencer Uggla had two while Danny Wolf, Andrew Rich, Bay Harvey and Aaron Winston each added a touchdown as well.
For the Eagles, freshman quarterback Jason Clark got his first start of the season and was 15 of 30 with 111 yards passing and had thrown an interception.
For Mifflin County Huskies quarterback and now Juniata Punter Noah Wright had 10 punts in the game for 376 yards. Averaging 36.1 yards per punt, the longest punt was 63 yards and Wright had two punts land inside the 20 yardline. Wright was also 1 for 7 for eight yards.
For Midd-West Mustang Hunter Wolfley had three carries for 25 yards averaging 8.3 yards per play and his longest run was 15 yards.
Noah Jacks-Waters helped led the Juniata defense with 11 total tackles in the game. 10 of those tackles were solo and just one was assisted. For Mifflin County linebacker Logan Peachey had two tackles in the game.
Another big factor into the game was the penalties, overall both teams combined for 18 penalties for a total of 208 yards for the game. 11 of those were given to the Eagles. Seven of those penalties came in the first half.
Juniata College now drops to (0-3) overall and (0-2) in the Centennial Conference and will look to rebound next Saturday as the Eagles will travel to face the Gettysburg College Bullets.
