The Juniata Cross Country teams competed against Newport, Greenwood, Susquenita, and Upper Dauphin at Little Buffalo State Park on Tuesday, October 12.  Both the girls and boys just came up shy for wins in the team competition.  Juniata girls and boys teams both had enough runners to score as a team.  The only other teams competing that had 5 runners where the Susquenita boys team and the Greenwood girls team.  The Juniata boys lost 30 – 27 against Susquenita, while the girls team lost 32 – 23 against Greenwood.
On the boys side, Junior Logan Strawser took first place overall with a time of 15:56.  Freshman Wyatt Stroup followed with his 3rd place finish with a time of 17:23.  Freshman Joey Bomberger placed 6th overall with a time of 18:22.  Senior Micah Fausey placed 15th with a time of 20:56.  Freshman Charlie Telfer rounded out the scoring for the Indians with a 17th place finish in a time of 21:30.  Senior Noah Sheaffer finished 22nd in a time of 24:35. Juniata coach Jeff Millet said “It was near perfect conditions for the cross country race at Little Buffalo State Park.  I had several of the boys run workouts within the race to get in some speed since districts are a little over two weeks away.  It added a new stimuli to their training other than grinding out a 5K week after week.  I was very impressed on the progress of freshman Charlie Telfer.  He dropped several minutes off his best time today and is a force to be reckoned with in the next several year at Juniata.  It’s my job to see just how far he can take it.  He has great speed as a distance runner.  We just need to continue working on his endurance.  He has come a long way and I’m very proud of him.”
On the girls side, Senior Emily Houtz led all of the Indians with her 5th place finish in a time of 22:51.  Freshman Jessie Bomberger came in shortly after with her 9th place finish in a time of 23:44.  Elizabeth Gaisior placed 15th in a time of 25:13.  Peyton Sheaffer and Joceline Telfer rounded out the girls team with 16th and 18th place.  Their times were 27:34 and 39:08 respectively.  Coach Jeff Miller said “The girls seemed to have fun running at Little Buffalo today.  I gave Emily a specific workout to do within the race and she got in some great work.  She appreciated having something different to focus on.  She’s run enough all out 5Ks in her life.”
