HIGHLAND PARK – Juniata dominated the inside and controlled the glass, spoiling the Mifflin County boys’ basketball team’s season opener in a 48-41 non-league contest on Wednesday.

The Indians (4-1) held a dominating 28-12 rebounding advantage, with Emmanuel O’Donnell and Jace White leading the way with 11 and seven boards, respectively.

White paced Juniata with 15 points. Teammates Max Lauver scored 11, and Yaniel Ortiz added 10. Owen Wise led the Huskies with 12 points.

Down 4-3 early, the Indians went on a 9-0 run with a three from Lauver and buckets from O’Donnell, Ortiz, and Jacob Condo to make it 12-4.

Mifflin County tied it up 18-18 at halftime with an 11-6 edge in the second quarter. Wise had nine points in the frame to pace the Huskies.

Juniata put the lead in double digits with a strong third quarter led by White. The Indians won the quarter 18-8 to take a 36-26 advantage into the fourth. White dominated the action with 10 points and four rebounds.

The Huskies won the final frame 15-11, but the Indians went 10-for-18 from the charity stripe to salt away the victory.

The Indians struggled from the line shooting 58 percent on 14-of-24 shooting. Mifflin County hit 13-of-16 from free-throw land for 81 percent.

Mifflin County hosts Red Land on Saturday in a Mid-Penn Keystone matchup. Juniata travels to Halifax for a Tri-Valley League tilt on Thursday.
