Juniata wrestlers finish in third at Juniata Team Tournament

MIFFLINTOWN – The Juniata wrestlers finished in third place in the Juniata Team Tournament Saturday by going 2-1.

Starting off the day the Indians went up against the Rockets of Southern Huntingdon.

In the end, Juniata would outlast Southern Huntingdon 48-29.

Starting at the 106-pound weight class Joey Bomberger notched a forfeit win.

Juniata continued its winning ways at 120, Casey Smith pinned Brian Fraker at 0:59.

126-pounder Taylor Smith topped the Rockets Cole Hicks via pinfall at 3:24.

The Indians also picked a pin at 132. Daniel Painter pinned Elijah Harper at 1:30.

172-pounder Harrison Mummah pinned Jack  Kerlin  at 0:42.

At 189, Lane Peiper pinned Noah Rice at 2:57.

Juniata’s Jonathan  Kauffman picked up a win in the 215-pound weight class when he pinned Mitchell Hart at 2:35.

Rounding out the wins for Juniata was 285-pounder Jordan Cruz as he won by pinfall over Jeremiah Baron at 1:19.

Central Dauphin 55, Juniata 10

In their second meet of the day, Juniata went up against one of the toughest teams in the Mid-Penn, Central Dauphin.

The Rams took the contest 55-10.

Juniata picked up wins at contest for the Indians 120, 126 and 215.

At 120, Casey Smith won by a 20-7 major decision against the Rams’ Dallas Schorr.

126-pounder Taylor Smith topped over Nathan  Fletcher by a 4-1 decision.

Rounding out the wins for the Indians was Jonathan  Kauffman at 215. Kauffman won by major decision over Carson Cassel, 11-1.

Juniata 34, Mount Union 30

In their battle for third place, the Indians got back to its winning ways, topping Mount Union 34-30.

Starting at 120: Casey Smith topped the Trojans’ AJ Chilcote by a 19-3 tech. Fall at 4:25.

Juniata’s Taylor Smith took the 126-pound weight class when Taylor Smith muscled out a 4-2 decision over Caden Chilcote.

160-pounder Josh Bomberger took his match against Mount Union’s Jase Ripple by a 15-0 Tech. fall at 4:09.

Juniata picked up a hard fought battle at 172, Harrison Mummah topped Jayce Reck by decision at  8-4.

Going into the 215-pound match Jonathan  Kauffman dominated from the beginning pinning Will Harkleroad at 1:09.

At 285, the Indians’ Jordan Cruz pinned Haiden Inch at 0:27.

Rounding out the match at 113, Juniata’s Amelia Smith picked up the forfeit win.
