Juniata’s offense dominates Halifax, 55-0

HALIFAX – Juniata completely overpowered rival Halifax 55-0 in a Tri-Valley League Football game Friday evening.
For the second straight game, the Juniata defense made its presence felt throughout the game as the Indians continued to win the battle in the trenches and did not allow Wildcats’ quarterback Teegan Carroll and their running backs not much room to breath.
In the first half only the Indians had found themselves in the back field on numerous occasions having six tackles for a loss as well as three sacks for the opening half of the game.
The Halifax offense struggled to move the chains as the Wildcats were forced to punt five times in the half while also going three and out five times as well.
Overall the Juniata defense had 11 tackles for loss of yardage and got to the quarterback seven times for the whole game.
On the offensive side of the ball, Seth Laub got the Indians on the scoreboard first with a two yard touchdown run.
A few minutes later, senior running back Waylon Ehrenzeller found himself in the endzone going eight yards for the score.
With the score at 14-0, Halifax had given up the ball with a fumble and the Juniata defense quickly pounced on it.
The offense took advantage of the Wildcat turnover as again Ehrenzeller found the endzone to score giving the Indians a 21-0 lead after one quarter of play.
Much like how the first quarter ended, Juniata caused another fumble which was recovered and quickly turned it into points as the Indians muscled their way down the field ending with a QB sneak by Aaron Kanagy for the score. However, the extra point attempt was blocked leaving it at 27-0.
Juniata added on two more scores in the period starting with a touchdown run from Jordan Dickinson while Laub nabbed his second rushing touchdown of the game to give the Indians a 41-0 lead heading into the break.
There were plenty of new faces for Juniata throughout the second half gaining valuable varsity football experience.
One those was freshman backup quarterback Jasper Shepps who threw his first career varsity football touchdown pass which was completed to junior receiver Grant Reinhold. This was the only score for the quarter with Juniata having a 48-0 lead.
The final score of the game came in the fourth quarter as freshman running back Jadon Nealman pounded his way into the endzone for a six yard touchdown run.
Juniata (3-2) will being having its Homecoming game next Friday as the Indians will welcome the Rockets of James Buchanan.
