Justin Peck Earns First Career Port Royal Sprint Car Victory; Satterlee and Parks Score Big in Late Model Competition

By- Justin Snyder

Port Royal Speedway- PORT ROYAL, Penn. (March 21, 2021)- Justin Peck capitalized on a front row starting spot to lead all 25 laps and picked up his first career Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Car victory over a hard charging Anthony Macri Saturday at Port Royal Speedway.

The Indiana native will be a regular on the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions tour this season behind the wheel of the Tom Buch No. 13. Originally the team planned to follow the World of Outlaws tour to start the season, but looking to capitalize on an opportunity to gain more laps in the Central Pennsylvania area, Peck is making the best of the opportunity.

“There’s no denying the 13 car has speed right now,” said Peck, “We came here last week and had nowhere near the car we had tonight. I didn’t win a race all last year, so it’s nice to have one checked off in March this year.”

Dylan Cisney and Peck lined up on the front row and it was Cisney getting the early jump. However, last week’s winner Lance Dewease and Pat Cannon got together on the backstretch to bring out the caution before a lap could be completed. Cannon would rejoin the field.

On the restart, Peck got the run exiting turn two and pulled  even with Cisney on the backstretch. With a head of steam entering turn three, Peck exited the turn with the lead to lead lap one. By lap five, Peck had already caught the tail end of the field and began to maneuver through lap traffic.

Three laps later the top four cars were all under a blanket on the backstretch in heavy lap traffic, but the caution would fly when Tyler Reeser and Jason Schultz got together in turn two. The halt in action gave Peck the clean air he needed to feel good in his car.

“I might have been looking at on lap car rather than trying to look forward and pick and choose my lines where I needed to be,” said Peck. “I couldn’t get off the top in one and two, but I saw Anthony sticking his nose under me there and I knew I had to stay up top and bang the board to hold on.”

Peck raced out at the return to green flag action, while last year’s leading feature winner at the Speedway, Macri, made his move for second on the inside of turn’s three and four the following circuit. Defending track champion Logan Wagner followed suit and slid into the third position on lap 10.

Four laps later Peck again closed in on the tail end of the field and Macri was all over him for the lead. He tried the bottom of the speedway on multiple occasions, but Peck was too strong off the top of the Speedway.

With Wagner lurking behind them both, Macri continued to gain ground on the backstretch and was throwing everything he had at Peck in heavy lapped traffic. Macri was better in turn’s one and two, but Peck had the momentum in three and four.

With five to go, Macri had his best opportunity as Peck was struggling to pick his line to pass the lappers. He dove to the bottom of him entering turn three, but Peck was able to position a lapped car between himself and Macri heading to the flag stand.

Macri would make one last dive-bomb effort on the final circuit entering turn three, but ultimately Peck was too strong and cruised home to his first career Port Royal triumph by a total of 1.316 seconds over Macri, Wagner, Cisney and Mike Wagner.

The win was worth $4000 and was Peck’s first since stepping behind the wheel of the Tom Buch machine.

“This is pretty cool as I grew up watching the Pennsylvania Posse and these guys are always tough no matter what night it is,” said Peck. “Tom Buch and all the guys that work on this car have me an awesome piece. It’s so much fun to be able to come out here and compete like we have been and we’ll keep plugging forward and see if we can’t get ourselves a couple more this year.”

For Macri, it was a struggle in turn’s three and four and he believed that was the difference between first and second.

“I knew they would be hard to beat off the front row as those guys have been really impressive since they got together,” said Macri. “We’d get a good run on Justin down the backstretch, but couldn’t capitalize in three and four. They had the best car tonight and we’ll keep working at it for next week.”

Blane Heimbach, Ryan Taylor, George Hobaugh, Jeff Halliagn and Mike Walter II rounded out the top ten. Gregg Satterlee picked right up where he left off last season by picking up the $3000 win during the Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS Racing Series feature event. The win moved Satterlee into a tie for 26th all-time at Port Royal Speedway and was his tenth career triumph at the Juniata County oval.

Satterlee bested Michael Norris, Max Blair, Rick Eckert and Tyler Bare by 3.526 seconds to earn the victory.

“I just love coming to this place so much and it doesn’t matter how many divisions are here the track is just perfect,” said Satterlee. “It’s easy to be happy when you’re in victory lane and our car was just so good tonight.”

Norris and Satterlee led the field to the green flag and it was Norris getting the early jump. Third starter Blair moved into second initially while Satterlee settled into third.

Norris opened up an early lead and he hit happed traffic on lap eight. One lap later Satterlee slid under Blair for the runner up spot and he set his sights on the leader. Three laps later Satterlee was all over Norris and he tried unsuccessfully to take the lead for two laps.

Finally on lap 14 Satterlee used a head of steam entering turn three to slide up in front of Norris to lead heading to the flag stand.

The caution flew the following lap for a slowing Mason Zeigler, but with clean air ahead of him Satterlee cruised ahead at the return to green flag action.

Norris and Blair battled side by side for most of the remaining laps, but neither had anything for Satterlee as he checked out to score the victory.

Dylan Yoder, Ross Robinson, Jared Miley, Colton Flinner and Gary Stuhler made up the rest of the top ten.

“It just seems this track really suits our program here lately and we’ve been good just about everytime out,” said Satterlee. “With how much they’re paying and the fields and track conditions, it’s safe to say we’ll be visiting Port Royal a time or two this season.”

For Norris, he knew that once Satterlee got by him it was going to be tough to track him back down.

“I knew we needed to get out front early and go if we wanted a chance,” said Norris. “Gregg is so good here and once I saw him get by I think we were pretty much racing for second. It was a lot of fun out there and I hope the fans enjoyed it.”

Kyle Knapp earned the hard charger award worth $200 courtesy of Georges Used Cars Inc. by advancing nine positions from 27th to 18th.

Matt Parks led all 20 laps to score his first career Selinsgrove Ford Limited Late Model feature event at the Port Royal Speedway. Andrew Yoder, Dillan Stake, Logan Robinson and Donnie Farling rounded out the top five.

The win was worth $1300, which was a $100 increase on the regular purse thanks to a fan, Zachary Knepp.

Parks outlasted a seven car pileup on lap four and late charge from Yoder and Stake to score the victory. Yoder started 12th on the grid while Stake started 13th.

A caution with four laps to go bunched up the field and Yoder and Stake both moved into their respective positions with two laps remaining, Yoder was closing the distance but simply ran out of laps as Parks won by a .694 second advantage.

“You know this car is two years old and we’ve just kind of been trying to get by and working hard for a few years now,” said Parks. “I was beginning to wonder if maybe I should give it up, but to be sitting here tells me I still have something to give and we’ll keep trying our hardest.”

Devin Hart, Derick Garman, Shawn Shoemaker, Mike Smith and Taylor Farling rounded out the top ten.
