King and Simmons compete in Day 1 of PIAA track and field State Games

SHIPPENSBURG – It was a nice first day at States for the MIfflin County track and field competitors. Jayden King made it to finals in the triple jump where he finished ninth with a best leap of 44’ 7 1/2”. “He worked hard to make corrections to his jumps, yet had trouble with a foul on his best jump of the day,” said MIfflin County coach Tamara Sechler. “I am very proud of his focus this season. He would make a goal, work towards achieving it and then have to set a new goal when he reached that mark. Jayden is a good leader and will be missed as he goes on to the next level.”

Myka Simmons finished in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.71.

“Myka had his debut performance in a big arena. He handled himself well, staying calm and focused as he waited for the 200 event to begin behind schedule,” said Sechler. “He delivered a nice time of 22.70. He is already talking about what he needs to do to get in the finals next year.”
