Krunch ends season

Central PA Krunch 10u – ASA Ohio Nationals/End of Season

By David Yeingst

On the grounds of the house that Ben Rothlisberger helped build surrounded by their biggest supporters Central PA Krunch 10u went into Findlay, Ohio with confidence and high hopes of coming away with an ASA national title ring. Leading up to this tournament the girls played in twelve tournaments, reached the title game in ten of them, and finished the task by winning seven of those championships all while outscoring their opponents by over 400 runs.
The opening ceremony festivities featured a homerun derby for all of the 10u teams and parents to enjoy. The fences didn’t stand a chance as Krunch 10u was home of one of the champions from the derby that ended up featuring Madilyn Paul hitting bombs like she was so used to doing for us this season.
Monday, July 31st – Game One: Ohio Lightning Gold vs. Krunch
The game was scoreless going into the fifth inning when Krunch scored on an error. The Lightning answered and tied the game in the next half of the sixth inning, but the Central PA Krunch scored five runs to finish the sixth and seal the deal.

Monday, July 31st – Game Two: Lady 83 Schmidt vs. Krunch
Even though Central PA Krunch and Lady 83 Schmidt both had their opportunities, it was Lady 83 Schmidt that eventually prevailed 10-8 on Monday. Lady 83 Schmidt was down 7-6 in the top of the fourth inning when there was an error, scoring two runs.

Krunch finishes the day and pool play at 1-1.

Tuesday, August 1st – Krunch vs. St. Louis Chaos
Krunch jumped out to an early lead over St. Louis Chaos and took home a 10-1 victory. Krunch had nine hits in the game and didn’t commit a single error in the field.

The Krunch drew only one 3 PM game on the day which meant a short day at the field and some much appreciated bonding time for the girls back at the hotel where they enjoyed a team lunch with and provided by their coaches before their game and attended a movie as a team and finally some swimming at the hotel pool.

Wednesday, August 2nd:
Things seemed to be going just as planned for the Central PA Krunch. A big win the day before, team bonding by all, parents feeling confident, and the possibility of another strong tournament run fueled by their intense training, hard work, and dedication. Unfortunately, this would be the day that our year long dedication to building this team would come to an end for all of us. A day that still stings as I click away at my keys on my keyboard.

Game One: Finesse vs. Krunch
Central PA Krunch watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 11-0 loss to Finesse on Wednesday. Finesse had eight hits in the game. Just like the
Krunch the day before the Finesse didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Game Two: Tennessee Elite vs. Krunch
Despite all of our hopes and prayers that the girls of Krunch 10u would make a spectacular run through the losers bracket to the championship game on Thursday, ultimately it just was not meant to be.

The Central PA Krunch had trouble keeping up with Tennessee Elite in a 12-2 loss on Wednesday.

Krunch took an early lead in the first inning. After Tennessee Elite scored one run in the top of the fifth, Krunch 10u answered with one of their own. Tennessee Elite evened things up at one in the top of the second inning. Tennessee Elite took the lead for good with eight runs in the third inning ending all of our hopes for ASA Nationals.
Our “Central PA Krunch” Facebook author summed it up the best by posting a quote from Dr. Seuss. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

As a father of a player on this team I can confidently state that this was an experience that we will remember forever. These fourteen girls lead all of us that love, support, and follow them on an amazing journey surrounding the game of softball. As a parent I’ve made friends that will last a lifetime and memories that will never fade and for that I thank all fourteen of you. Thank you to all of the parents of these fourteen girls for enduring the long drives, practices, planning, and cost of travel softball, but most of all for being driven like myself to work together towards our common goals involving the Central PA Krunch and our girls. Last but certainly not least, thank you to the four coaches that dedicated their own time and from day one had this team of girls and parents on the same page. Your instruction on all facets of this game is top notch in class and excellence.

If you know someone looking to play softball, Central PA Krunch is the place and these are the coaches you are looking for. With this sadly being my last time writing to support this group just know my final words are loaded with well wishes and good lucks. I look forward to seeing where you all end up, for you are all truly the hardest working group of softball players in the Central PA area and I know whatever any of you put your minds to you will succeed. It has been a pleasure to write for you. Congrats and God bless.
