Lady Raiders even season series against Lady Mounties

BELLEFONTE – The Bellefonte softball team avenged an early loss to Philipsburg-Osceola Wednesday afternoon, topping the Mounties 8-5.

Bellefonte finished with 10 hits while the Mounties posted nine.

Picking up the win for the Red Raiders was Carley Clarkson as she went the distance allowing nine hits, five runs and eight strikeouts.

Posting multiple hits for Bellefonte were Madison Melius (3-for-4 a 2runs, RBI), Sienna Barnhart (2-for-3 2RBIs, 2 runs) and Madison Ripka (2-for-3).

Taylor Brown went yard for Bellefonte, blasting a home run.

Offensively, the Mounties were led by Karissa Taylor who was a perfect 3-for-3 on the night with 3RBIs. Taylor also blasted a home run to pace the Lady Mounties. Paige Jarrett was the last multiple hitter for PO going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Philipsburg-Osceola scored first posting three in the first.

Jarrett started things off with a single to right field.

London Cutler followed with a walk.

MyKenna Bryan singled, loading the bases.

Taylor posts a 2-RBI single scoring Jarrett and Cutler.

With 2-outs and the bases loaded, Emily Herr scores Bryan on a walk.

Trailing 3-0, the Lady Raiders got one back as Barnhart scored on a J Lose single.

Trailing 3-1 going into the second, Bellefonte started to tightened its defense.

The Lady Mounties were held in check in the second.

Bellefonte was just getting warmed up as it posted a 6-run inning in the bottom of the second.

Ripka got the inning off strong singling to right.

However, Ripka was forced out and replaced on the base path by Cotter.

With two outs, Melius blasted a shot past shortstop, moving Cotter to second.

Tori Reichert doubled in Cotter and moved Melius to third.

With runners on second and third.

Barnhart sizzled a 2RBI single, giving the Red Raiders the lead at 4-3.

Brown ends the scoring in the inning when Brown blasted a 2-run home run scoring herself and Barnhart.

In the third, Bellefonte was back at it as they posted a 2-run inning.

Ripka opened with a double to start things off.

Again with two outs, Melius doubled in Ripka, making it a 7-3 contest.

Melius scored on a wild pitch.

Leading 8-3, the Mounties tried to make a comeback as it scored one in the fifth.

Taylor roped a solo homer, closing in with a 8-4.

The Mounties scored one in the sixth but it was too little too late as the Red Raiders held onto to the 3-run Mountain League victory.
