Lady Raiders fall to DuBois ending season

They went down fighting.

The year sadly came to an end for the Bellefonte girls basketball team Monday night as they lost a tough District 6 road post season opener to DuBois 46-43.

“It is a tough way to end the season. The team played valiantly throughout the entirety of the game. They put their heart into this game and it is shame that we could not get the victory,” said Bellefonte coach Marcus Toomer. “DuBois is a tough team, espcially on their home floor. The team is disappointed but they are still hungry to improve and learn from this exprience. I couldn’t be more proud of this team.”

Maddie Tice led her team in scoring, knocking down 15 points in the loss.

Teammate Mia Johnson added a 10-point double-digit effort in the back-and-forth contest.

The Lady Raiders took the first advantage of the night as they had the hot hand early, leading 12-6 after the first quarter.

DuBois was led by Saige Weible who finished with a game-high 25 points.

But DuBois bounced back in the second, barely outscoring Bellefonte 10-9 in the period

When the two went into the intermission, the Red Raiders led 21-16.

There was a bit of a reversal in the the third quarter as the Red Raiders were able to get the advantage back, outscoring their opponent 10-9.

However, DuBois would open up and start hitting the buckets they needed to mount a comeback and in the end they did just that, posting a 21-12 stanza and a 3-point victory.

Bellefonte ended its season with a 10-13 record.
