Lady Raiders foiled by strong Central 4th quarter

The Bellefonte girls basketball team pushed their opponent Central to the limit Tuesday before falling to the Red Dragons 45-36.

“It was a great defensive effort tonight. It’s always tough to play Central at home,” said Bellefonte coach Marcus Toomer. “But the team played hard throughout. I am very proud of them.

Leading the way offensively for the Lady Raiders was Maddie Tice,  who finished with 11.

Central was lead by Erin Brumbaugh who had a game-High 13 points.

Teammates Bailey Heuston and Kylie Metzger both finished with 10 points each.

However, it was Bellefonte who opened the game and took the first lead after one, posting a slim 14-13 advantage going into the second.

Central tied the game going into the intermission, outscoring the Lady Raiders 9-8, tying it a 22.

Coming out of the intermission, both defenses remained stingy as the Dragons came out with a 12-11 third quarter performance, giving them a one-point advantage going into fourth.

In the final stanza, Central’s offense started to heat up as it was able to post an 11-point effort while holding Bellefonte to just three points.

Bellefonte (2-3) will be back in action today as it travels to Central Mountain.
