Lady Raiders secure post season bid; tops Clearfield in season finale

Playoff bound!!

After a season of growth despite injury to senior Maddie Steiner, the Bellefonte girls basketball team officially captured a post season berth with a win over Clearfield Wednesday night, 54-38.

“The team did a great job bouncing back from the tough loss the night before. After a slow start, our defense really picked up and we were able to score the basketball on a consistent basis,” said Bellefonte coach Marcus Toomer. “We were shorthanded as we only played 6 girls tonight but they did a great job pushing through on the road.”

Mallorie Smith led the scoring on the night for the Lady Raiders posting a 21-point effort.

Teammate Maddie Tice was not far behind with a 19-point effort.

Clearfield managed just one player in double-figures as Kylie Van Tassel finished with 11.

This game was never in question as Bellefonte outscored Clearfield in all four quarters.

The Lady Raiders found themselves muscle out a close 9-6 first quarter.

In the second, the Red Raiders gave themselves some breathing room outscoring their opponent 17-10.

As the two went into the intermission, Bellefonte lead 26-16.

Things continued to move along in the third for the Lady Raiders as they found themselves in a tight 14-13 third period.

However, the Red Raiders put the game away, scoring 14 points in the final stanza while their defense held Clearfield to nine, en route to the 54-38 victory.

With the win, Bellefonte improved to 10-12 and most importantly a first round meeting with DuBois in D6 post season action.
