Lady Raiders top East Juniata in thrilling contest

The Bellefonte girls basketball team picked up a hard fought win over the weekend, topping East Juniata on the road 39-33 in a non-league contest.

Offensively, Bellefonte was led by Maria Cotter with 15 points in a winning effort.

East Juniata was led by Sara Brackbill’s game-high 18 points.

“It was a consistent team effort tonight to get the win. We were able to pull away in the 3rd quarter and then weather the storm in the 4th,” said Bellefonte coach Marcus Toomer. “The team handled the adversity very well and was able to make the important shots at the end.”

Both teams posted 10-point efforts in the first quarter, going into the second tied in a stalemate.

Both had identical points in the second as well posting six.

The game would go into the half as a 16-16 thriller.

Coming out of the intermission the Red Raiders would break the tie outscoring the Tigers 18-6, taking a 34-22 advantage into the final stanza.

East Juniata refused to go down without a fight as the posted 11 points while holding Bellefonte to only five.

However, it was too little too late as the Red Raiders took home the victory.
