Lady Rams score last second goal to top PO

PV – 1, PO – 0

In a nail biting Thursday get together, the Penns Valley girls soccer team battled Philipsburg-Osceola for an entire 80 minutes.

But with 42 ticks left on the game clock Penns Valley’s Cate Goodwin scored off of an assist by Katie Martell to take home the hard fought victory.

“Tonight was another tough game against what is probably the most improved team in the league this year.  Philipsburg made things very tough for us and were very disciplined on defense.  We struggled to get things going in the final third tonight.  We possessed the ball pretty well overall tonight but didn’t create as many quality chances in attack as we should have,” said Penns Valley coach Andrew Beverly said. “We had a boatload of shots but only a small amount of those were high percentage chances for us.  Freshman Chamiqua Gentzel stepped on short notice to keep a clean sheet for us in goal tonight and Cate Goodwin was rewarded when her hard work to get into the box netted her the winning goal in the last minute of the game.  While we would have loved to perform at our best in all aspects of the game, we’re please to have gotten the result tonight against a resiliant P-O team.”

Penns Valley outshot the Mounties 41-7.

Penns Valley goalie Chamiqua Gentzel tallied three saves while PO’s Kinley Bender had 18.

In Corner Kicks, the Rams held a 5-4 advantage.

Penns Valley’s record is now 11-2 and 9-2 in the Mt. League.  Our next game is on Monday vs Central.
