Lady Rams shuts out PO

Getting the week started on the right foot, the Penns Valley girls improved its overall record to 4-0 and 3-0 in Mountain League action with its 3-0 win over Philipsburg-Osceola Monday.

“It took us a good while to get in the game tonight.  And credit where it’s due, this was in large part because of a hard-working, organized, and well-coached Philipsburg team.  We started growing into the game as the first half went on but couldn’t put anything together,” said Penns Valley Coach Andrew Beverly. “We talked about what we needed to do in the second half to right the ship and the response from the girls was great.  Scotty Dinges was a threat most of the night down our right side and set up Nikki Denger early in the second half to score our first goal with a brilliant left-footed shot.  Katie Martel popped up to score yet again off a heads up, quick throw in from Katie Romig.  Maria Lovallo then got a goal off a long range shot with an assist from Leah Beben.  Ellie Brinker was fantastic in the second half controlling our midfield and Cate Goodwin was at her hard-working best up top for us again.  While we’d have loved to be at our best from the start and carry it through the entire game, I was still very proud of the response we got from the girls in the second half.”

Penns Valley’s Nikki Denger led the scoring as she was assisted by Scotty Dinges at 42:38.

Minutes later teammate Katie Martell off an assist by Katie Romig made it 2-0 at 44:35.

Rounding out the Rams scoring was Maria Lovallo  when she found the back of the net on an assist by Leah Beben at 51:43.

The Lady Rams outshot the Mounties 24-2.

Keeper Kylie Auman finished with one save while Philipsburg-Osceola  goalkeeper Paige Rishell finished with 11.

Penns Valley also led in Corner Kicks 4-0.

“Our hope is to carry the momentum from that second half performance into a tough game at Central on Wednesday,” said Beverly.

Penns Valley’s record is 4-0 and 3-0 in the Mt. League.  The Rams next game is 9/23 at Central.
