Lady Tigers writes their ticket to D4 title game; tops Northumberland Christian

COCOLAMUS – Defense led the way for the East Juniata girls soccer team as it went to battle in Northumberland Christian in the Semi finals in District 4.

Though the Tigers got off to a slow start, they finished the victors of a 5-1 contest Tuesday.

Leading the way for the explosive Lady Tigers team was goalie Grace Hibbs finished with three saves but also played stingy and aggressive the box, allowing just one goal in the contest.

Offensively, Kierstyn Fogle finished the contest posting two goals in the contest and she also collected an assist.

East Juniata scored its first goal rather quickly posting a goal only 4:48 into the game.

Northumberland had its moments moving down the field but each time they were met with aggressive defensive backfield play and were sent away each time empty handed.

The home team continued to possess the ball and pound it into Northumberland Christians’ backfield and was constantly knocking at the door.

For almost twenty minutes, Northumberland’s defense was able to hold off the Lady Tigers but at the 26-minute mark  Fogle was able to break free and sent it home, making it a 2-0 contest.

The two teams went into the intermission with East Juniata holding onto the 2-0.

East Juniata came out firing and found an early score when Amara Brubaker picked up an assist by Fogle at 49:30.

From there, the Tigers started to wear down Northumberland and it started to show around the 70-minute mark.

Brianna Henry plastered an unassisted goal at 70:25 to put the game out of reach at 4-1.

Fogle finished the scoring on an unassisted goal of her 78:36, lifting her team to the District 4 championship game.
