Late Runs Carries McVeytown to Victory

MCVEYTOWN – Two monstrous innings propelled McVeytown to defeat Beaver Springs in six innings by the final score of 13-3 in Babe Ruth Baseball action Monday evening.
McVeytown scored first in the bottom of the second inning where they brought home two runs in the frame. The first run was scored by Jett Powell who made his way to home plate thanks to Treven Shaffer who reached on an error at short. Then later in the inning, Easton Stonerook reached base on a fielder’s choice, but ultimately scored home Logan Bickhart to make it a 2-0 lead.
However, Beaver Springs answered in the top half of the third, scoring two runs of their own. Derek Keister drove in Max Trawitz with a single to left field before Keister himself was driven home by Dale Davidson to even the score at two apiece.
But then in the bottom half of the inning, McVeytown added on another run thanks to a single to right center from Carson Cherry which brought home Gatlin Kauffman giving back the lead to McVeytown making it 3-2.
After a pair of innings went by, neither team really got going offensively, but Beaver Springs eventually evened the score up at three apiece in the top of the fifth inning where Maverick Smith reached first on an error at second which allowed River Knepp to score.
During the bottom of the fifth inning, McVeytown went on a two out rally with Bo Benny getting it started and hammered a two run double to left bringing in both Collen Bush and Kauffman. Jett Powell then singled in Benny before Powell managed to score the fourth and final run of the frame by stealing home.
McVeytown then added the finishing touches in the bottom of the sixth inning where they scored six more runs and clinched the ten run rule.
Carson Cherry led McVeytown at the plate going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Jett Powell also had multiple hits in the game while Shane Moist and Benny had a hit.
For Beaver Springs, they were led by Max Trawitz, Derek Keister and Landon Keister all had multiple hits for the evening. River Knepp and Vance Gregg added a hit each.
Pitching wise, McVeytown called upon Gatlin Kauffman to start and Kauffman pitched three and two-thirds innings and collected six strikeouts and walked three. Carson Cherry finished the game off going two and a third innings and had five strikeouts.
McVeytown will hit the road and go up against Belltown while Beaver Springs will be on the road again this time, they will be facing Belleville. Both games will be played today.
