Wrestling drops PSAC dual to Millersville, 38-9

Delp scores pin in Heiges debut

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meet to the visiting Millersville Marauders Thursday at Heiges Field House, 38-9.

Shippensburg’s (5-9,0-4 PSAC) victories came at 149 and 165 pounds, with redshirt-sophomore Mike Trainor (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara) earning a hard-earned 6-2 decision at 149 and graduate Nick Delp (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area (Bucknell)) scoring a rousing pin in his Heiges Field House debut at 165.

Millersville (11-4, 2-1) scored bonus points in seven of its eight total victories, including two forfeits.

Trainor outwrestled Millersville 149-pounder Danny Sinclair in a scoreless first three minutes, but it was Sinclair that struck first via a second period reversal. Two escapes and a stalling point gave Trainor a 3-2 edge before he sealed the decision with a takedown of Sinclair inside the last five seconds of the final period.

Delp managed to rack up a 13-0 lead on Millersville’s Chase Bish before cinching in a cradle and sticking his opposition midway through the second period.

Shippensburg was the recipient of several unlucky breaks throughout the night, coming close to takedowns on a couple of occasions. Additionally, two members of the SU starting lineup were out due to illness.

Next up, the Raiders continue a run of four home dual meets over a 10-day span when they welcome Pitt-Johnstown to Heiges Field House Tuesday at 7 p.m.
