LHU Baseball splits doubleheader with Glenville State in West Virginia

The LHU baseball team traveled to Glenville, West Virginia and split a doubleheader with Glenville State. 

 

GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (6-6) grabbed the opening game from Glenville State (11-2), 10-2, but dropped the second, 8-2, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon in West Virginia.

 

Game 1: W, 10-2 

 

Lock Haven came out with a bang in the top of the first. Joe Shannon (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent (Mercer CC) launched two run shot over the fence to score Jake Mastillo (Roaring Brook Twp, Pa./North Pocono) and take a 2-0 lead.

 

In the second inning the Bald Eagles drove in five more runs as Nick White (Halethorpe, Md./Lansdowne (CCBC Dundalk) laced an RBI single to score Gabe Stirr (Canadensis, Pa./Pocono Mtn. East). Justin Lichtenwalner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) found the gap in the outfield for a two-RBI double and scored Gavin Troutman (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley)

and Nick White to push LHU ahead 7-1.

 

Stirr smashed a solo homerun and The Haven led 8-1 in the third inning.

 

The Bald Eagles notched RBIs in the fourth and sixth innings behind Joe Shannon (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) and Mastillo to pull away for the 10-2 win.

 

The Bald Eagles started David Keller (Oreland, Pa/Christopher Dock Mennonite) on the mound and the junior turned in another strong outing. Keller allowed just one earned run in seven innings and struck out three batters.

 

Game 2: L, 8-2 

In the second game Glenville took an early lead and held off the Bald Eagles to split the doubleheader. Glenville State drove in six runs over the first two innings and did not look back. Mastillo drove in both LHU runs as he singled into center field scoring Troutman and Lichtenwalner in the third inning.

 

Next Up: 

The Bald Eagles wrap up their weekend series tomorrow with another doubleheader versus Glenville State starting at 1:00 p.m.
