Little Lions’ LAX falls to tough Blue Devils team

STATE COLLEGE – They went down fighting!

The State College girls lacrosse team battled to the end against a tough Mount Lebanon team before falling 7-5 in the post season.

State College got a strong performance offensively by Leah Moyer who finished with a hat trick  and Lizzie Paterno who rallied two.

Despite giving up seven, the State College defense led by goalie Grace Jones made 12 saves and the defense clamped down after to Blue Devil early goals.

Mount Lebanon got goals by Addy Murdoch and Reagan Murdoch. The two combined for five of the seven Blue Devil goals.

Mount Lebanon got off to a quick start when Addy Murdoch took the ball right at the Little Lions goal and scored at the 24:44 mark of the first.

Five minutes later, the Blue Devils struck again, this time it was Reagan Murdoch.

After the quick strike, the Little Lions battled back to get back in it as Leah Moyer hit the State College goal with 17:13 left in the first half.

Reagan Murdoch, upped the lead back to a 2-goal contest.

As the final minutes wound down in the first, it looked as if the Blue Devils would goal into the intermission with a 2-goal cusion.

But with eight ticks left in the half, Lizzie Paterno intercepted a Mount Lebanon inbounds pass and sent a laser shot at the Blue Devils goal, cutting the deficit to 3-2 as the first half culminated.

Coming out of the intermission, the Little Lions came out scorching hot. Paterno started the scoring, tying the contest at 23:29.

Moyer gave the Lady Little Lions the advantage for the first time in the game, scoring at the 22:42 mark.

Less than two minutes later, the Lions were at it again as they got the ball back to Moyer and she sent it to the top corner of the cage, making it a 5-3 advantage.

However, the Blue Devils were able to slowly get back into the game and eventually tied the game at five at the 14:32.

The game remained tied until the game dropped to below the 10-minute mark.

Mount Lebanon broke the tie at the 5:40 mark.

Addy Murdoch hit the last shot, icing the game.
