Local player profiles: Alex and Zach Keller

Alex Keller – 11th Grade

Sports:  Soccer and Football

Alex has played soccer since Kindergarten, played indoor soccer at the YMCA and Lions Den and outdoor soccer with the Mifflin County Soccer Club for Rec League and Travel Soccer.  When he reached Jr. High and could play on the school team, he was the starting mid-fielder and leading scorer in 7th and 8th grade.  He also helped manage the HS soccer team.  He was the only freshman to start for the HS Varsity soccer team, playing primarily on defense.  He joined the Penn United Soccer club in State College to further his soccer development and played in their travel league and various tournaments.  In 2021, his Penn United team won the Erie Memorial Day and the Hershey Cup tournaments.  He has since joined the Penn FC Black soccer team in summer of 2021 where he will be facing greater competition this Spring.  In 2020 he became a field goal and kick off kicker for the MC Husky football team.  In 2021 he was the starting field goal and kick off kicker until a groin injury sidelined him for most of the soccer and football seasons.  Alex has helped referee some travel soccer games, helped with his younger brothers travel soccer team, and this past December helped deliver Christmas cards made by Mrs. Keller’s HS business students to residents at Ohesson Manor/Daikon Senior Living Center.  Alex would like to play soccer or be a field goal and kick off kicker in college.

Zach Keller – 7th Grade

Sports:  Soccer and Basketball

Following in his brothers’ footsteps, Zach has also played soccer since Kindergarten, played indoor soccer at the YMCA and Lions Den, and outdoor soccer with the Mifflin County Soccer Club for Rec League and Travel Soccer.  Zach helped manage the Jr High soccer team last year.  In 2020 his Sting travel soccer team won the Lions Den indoor league.  In summer 2021 the Sting soccer team played in a beach soccer tournament in Ocean City , MD where they won their division.  He’s looking forward to continuing his soccer career this spring with the Jr. High team.  Zach played YMCA basketball in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade.  He took a 4 year break from basketball to concentrate on soccer.  In December of 2020, Zach joined the Husky Hoopsters basketball team and shortly thereafter became their starting Center.  He played AAU basketball in Spring 2021, playing in various leagues and tournaments with head coach Wade Curry.  Their team won a number of tournaments during this time and placed 4th in the PA State playoffs.  Zach is currently the starting Center for the Jr. High JV team (7th graders) as well as one of three captains on the team.  He also gets some playing time on the Jr. High Varsity team (8th graders).

Both Alex and Zach have a strong work ethic, strong competitive spirit, and leave everything on the field/court.  Outside of games and practice, they are constantly working on their skills.  They both excel in the classroom, love hanging out with family and friends, attending various sporting events, playing board games and of course, they love their Xbox.
