Lockett, Huskies slow down Thundering Herd

LEWISTOWN- Lock and load.

Mifflin County pitcher Tristen Lockett isn’t nicknamed the “Rocket” for nothing.

Wednesday night, Lockett had a strong night on the mound against Carlisle, striking out nine and allowing only three hits as the Huskies topped the Thundering Herd, 6-1 in front of its hometown fans.

Offensively, Bryce Dobson carried the hot bat, going 2-for-3 and posting four RBIs.

In the first, Lockett set down the line up in order 1-2-3, with two strike outs.

In the bottom of the inning, the Huskies also went down in order.

Lockett struck out two more in the second.

Mifflin County broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, plating two.

Tyreen Smalley led off with a walk. He moved up to third on a single by Evan Smith. He then stole second, putting both runners in scoring position.

Dobson sent a screamer into left field, scoring Smalley and Smith on the play.

Lockett continued the Thundering Herd’s woes in the third, as he continued to keep Carlisle at bay.

Two’s were the Huskies favorite number on the night as they once again scored two more in the bottom of the third.

Brando Souders led the inning off with a single to left.

He then moved over to third as Colby Bodtorf layed down a sacrifice bunt that was booted by the Carlisle third baseman. He later stole second on the first pitch to Evan Mock.

Mock blasted a sizzler into right field, plating both Souders and Bodtorf, upping the lead to 4-0.

In the fourth, the Thundering Herd broke up the Lockett no-hit bid and shut out, picking up two hits and a run, cutting the lead to 4-1.

It was de ja vue  in the sixth as once again Dobson brought in Smalley and pinch runner Jared King, ending the scoring at 6-2.

Lockett went the distance and ended the game with two more strikeouts, giving him nine for the night.

The win upped the Huskies record to 4-5 in the Mid-Penn and 4-8, overall.
