Lots of personal best for Juniata XC at Ben Bloser Invitational

 

 
The Juniata Indians’ Cross Country team competed at the Ben Bloser Invitational on Saturday, September 14 at Big Spring High School in Newville.  The boys placed 8th out of 24 teams in the AA race.  Leading the Indians was senior Garrett Baublitz who won the A/AA race with a personal best and school record of 15:46.  Baublitz broke away from Gage Krall of Northern Lebanon shortly after the 2 mile to take the win by nearly 30 seconds.  The next Indian to cross the line was Senior Clay Yeager with a time of 17:23 and also a personal best.  Junior James Hazard was next for the Indians, breaking the 18:00 barrier for the first time in his running career.  Hazard stopped the clock at 17:56. Coach Jeff Miller was very pleased with how the boys team ran today.  “All of their hard work is starting to show”.  Also competing on the varsity team were:
Brody Powell – 19:28 personal best
Isaak Fausey – 19:31
Micah Fausey – 19:42 personal best
Will Tyson – 19:55
In the boy’s JV race, Freshman Tim Kelly lead the way for the Indians finishing 44th place in AA with a personal best time of 21:25.  Next was Noah Sheaffer, also clocking a personal best of 22:01.  Rounding out the boy’s JV race was Kaleb Louder with a time of 28:28. Coach Miller is very pleased with the effort that the boys put in today.  “They have a great attitude”.
In the girl’s A/AA race, Juniata had four girls compete, but were unable to score as a team without a fifth runner.  Sophomore Emily Houtz lead the way finishing 36st place in AA with a time of 22:44.  Julia Burns crossed the line next for the Indians with a personal best of 30:58.  Finishing it up for the Indians were Katie Hart with a time of 31:21 and Joceline Telfer with time of 38:11.  Coach Miller said “The girls ran well considering the hard week of training we had”.
Overall the Indians had 9 runners achieve personal best times out of 14.
The Indians will compete on Tuesday, September 17 at Susquenita.
