MC 10Us shine in day 1 of Cal Ripken All-Star action

LEWISTOWN – It was a day of perfection for the Mifflin County 10U All-Stars Saturday in the opening two rounds of All-Star baseball competition.
The “Purple and White” squad opened up the day with a 10-4 victory over Perry County 6-3 and then finished their day with a victory over Juniata County.
In the first game, the MC defense took center stage early posting some veteran prowess posting a double play and also gunning out a runner heading home, saving a total of at least two runs.
Offensively, Carter Walker tallied a strong performance as he blasted a triple and a single along with a run as well as an RBI.
He was the lone multiple hitter for his team.
Overall, Mifflin County pounded out eight hits in the victory.
Patience at the plate was MC’s strengths as well, walking four times and selecting the pitches they were looking for.
After shutting down the Perry County bats in their first two innings. Mifflin County started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning.
Evan Sharp got things started with a double to right centerfield. He then moved up on a wild pitch.
With two out, Walker was cool under pressure as he blasted a long single also into right.
The bats for Perry County in the third, tied the contest at one .
Mifflin County took back the lead as they strung a 4-run inning on Perry County.
Hunter Stringfellow started off the momentum with a walk to get things going.
Jaxon Joyce blasted him home on an RBI double, upping it to a 2-1 advantage. He then stole third, putting him in prime scoring position at third.
Zane Dickson joined Joyce on the base paths with a walk.
Jonas Weaver loaded the bases with a walk as well.
Garrett Shawver bounced Joyce home on an RBI fielders choice.
An error allowed both Weaver to score.
With Shawver on third, he was able to motor his way home, upping the MC advantage to 5-1.
In the fourth, Walker was at it again, tripling to the left field corner. Snook again brought Walker home singling back up the middle, making it a 6-0 contest.
Perry County refused to go away as they put together a 2-run sixth.
However, it was too little too late as the MIfflin County crew took the contest 6-3. Picking up the win was Easton Peachey.
In the second game against Juniata , the contest belonged to Mifflin County from the beginning and the home team never looked back to advance to day two as the number one seed.
Leading the offensive attack was Wvan Sharp who hit an inside-the-park home run. Sharp also had 2RBIs.
Stringfellow had a good day at the plate posting a 2-for-2 output with 3 RBIs on two doubles. Shawver also posted 2RBIs as did Jasper Snook in their team’s 23-3 victory.
Juniata got an RBI from Brooks Jones.
MC Hurler Jasper Snook got the win.
