MC 12Us comeback to defeat Nittany Valley

BELLEFONTE – The Mifflin County girls 12U softball team overcame an early 4-0 deficit and came home with a hard fought Nittany Valley team, 17-6 Wednesday evening at Bellefonte’s Panik Field in the second round of District All-Star action.
Mifflin County finished with 15 hits while Nittany Valley tallied eight.
Leading the Purple and Orange offensively were Emily Dickson (3-for-3, 2BIs, 3runs), Brenna Benny (2-for-4 4RBIs, run), Grayce Napikoski (2-for-4, run) and Olivia Bedlyon (2-for-2, RBI, 3runs).
“The Blue and Red” was led offensively by Lainey Sherman who went 2-for-3,2RBIs).
Mifflin County hurler Chelsea Anewalt picked up the win in relief of starter Grayce Napikoski.
Going into the fourth with the game tied at four, Mifflin County took the lead for good, posting six runs.
Napikoski sent a blast down third baseline ending in a double.
Gracelyn Rider sent a single back into centerfield, scoring Napikoski.
Callie Kuhns singled Rider to third, putting runners on the corners.
Dickson blasted a shot to right field to score both Rider and Kuhns on the play, adding to their lead to 7-4.
When the dust settled in the inning, Mifflin County held a 10-4 advantage.
Nittany Valley refused to go away without a fight as they added another run in the bottom of the fourth.
Lainey Sherman doubled to get the inning going. She stole second.
She scored on a MIfflin County error, cutting it to a 10-5 contest.
But the MIfflin County bats were too much for the spunky Nittany Valley team as they went on to outscore the home team 7-1 down the stretch, sending them to the title tilt on Friday.
In the first Nittany Valley got themselves off to a strong start, posting four runs to take the early advantage.
Lead off hitter Harper Bair smashed a triple, getting the inning started on the right foot.
Saige Moore and Nora Brown followed with consecutive walks.
Bair scored on a wild pitch while Moore and Brown both moved up a base into scoring position.
With one out, Grace Ammerman tripled in both runners on a triple of her own, upping the lead to 3-0.
Lainey Sherman bounced into an RBI fielders choice to give the home team a 4-0 advantage.
Both teams went scoreless in the second.
Mifflin bounced back in the third, tying the contest at four.
Dickson led the charge, leading off the inning with an infield single. She stole second d and moved up to third on a single by Bedlyon.
Kayla Velez reached on an error, loading the bases.
Mifflin County scored its first run via a miscue by Nittany Valley.
Addyson Crisswell brought in a second run on an RBI fielders choice, cutting it to a 2-0 deficit.
Benny blasted a 2RBI single to knot things at four.
With the win, MC improved to 2-0 while Nittany Valley dropped to 1-1.
