By Kenny Varner

MCALISTERVILLE – Get out the sirens Mifflin County!

With its win over a scrappy West End team, the Mifflin County 13-year old Babe Ruth team captured its 10th state title in its long and distinguished history with its 11-4 win Wednesday afternoon.

It was a total team effort as up and down the line up all the players from Mifflin County contributed to take the title and head to regional play as the State’s number one seed.

“This was a very good team effort. Logan Ruth and Evan Strohecker pitched well for us and there was always someone in the line up that either hit or fielded for us,” said Mifflin County coach Denny Yetter. “This was a great team effort.”

Ruth and Strohecker kept the West End line up off balance the entire game, scattering nine hits.

The Mifflin County bats churned out hit after hit, finishing with 18 hits while scoring 11 runs.

Sizzling at the plate for “The Blue and White” was Reese Christine who finished with a 3-for-4 effort with three long blasts, two of the three were doubles while the other was a single. He also finished with three RBIs and three runs.

Notching two hits each in the contest for Mifflin County were Nazae Traxler, Strohecker, Nathan Parkes, Max Yoder and Chase Leister.

Defensively, the Mifflin County infield clamped down on most everything that was hit to them as they shut down numerous scoring threats by West End.

Being in the visitors position the Mifflin County offense came out clicking on all-cylinders as it grinded out five runs in the process.

Strohecker wasted little time getting the game going as he smashed a lead off double.

Madden Weaver joined Strohecker on the base paths with a walk.

Christine stood tall at the plate and took a West End offering to the deep depths of the McAlisterville field fence, finishing as a 2-RBI double.

With one out, starting pitcher, Ruth helped his own cause as he smashed an RBI double to Centerfield scoring Christine, upping the contest to an early 3-0.

Parkes blooper to left field was enough to score Ruth who was running on the play.

Traxler smashed a single that would score Parkes, ending the Mifflin County at bats with five runs.

West End battled back in the bottom of the inning, scoring two in the inning.

Zane Rogers and Lucas Naughton would score in the inning.

Back came the Mifflin County bats in the second.

Weaver started the inning off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a West End error.

Christine followed up his first mammoth blast with a second one as he hit his second double of the night, scoring Weaver.

Leister kept things going with a single, putting runners on the corners.

Ruth brought in Christine on an RBI single.

Rounding out the scoring was an RBI double by Parkes, increasing the lead to 8-2.

Ruth and his defense came up strong in second and third, leaving runners on but no runs across.

West End cut the lead in half in the fourth, plating two more runs.

But that would be as close as they would get as Mifflin County added three insurance runs before handing Strohecker to come in and close things down.

In the final inning, Strohecker was unhittable as he struck out 3-of-4 to preserve the win and give his team the title.

The team will now head to Altoona for the Regionals.
