MC 14s refuse to lose, battle back to drop Altoona

BELLEFONTE- No matter what the situation these guys know how to win!

Trailing twice in their contest against a familiar foe in Altoona, the MIfflin County 14U All-Stars answered the call time-after-time coming back to outlast Altoona 10-8.

Picking up the win for MIfflin County was Jude Zook who went two innings and allowed two runs on just one hit.

Offensively, the bat sizzled for Gatlin Kauffman. The leadoff hitter finished with a perfect three-for-three evening with 3RBIs and a run scored.

Providing the big “Pop” of the night was a round tripper by Colton Aumiller. Aumiller also smashed a double and finished with a 2RBIs.

Mifflin County pounded out 10 hits on the night while Altoona finished with 11.

Altoona’s Garret Reese and Caleb Detrick both led the way for Altoona in hitting with two-hit efforts.

Opening the contest, Altoona struck first, posting two runs in the first.

Detrick posted a 2-run single in the opening inning.

But the “Blue and White” battled back to cut the Altoona lead in half, posting a run in their part of the first.

Gatlin Kauffman walked.

Aumiller doubled, putting Kauffman on third.

Bo Benny walked to load the bases.

Liam Shaffer scored Kauffman as he bounced into a RBI fielders’ choice.

Altoona would add to the lead back to two in the second.

Trailing 3-1 going into the bottom of the second, MIfflin County battled back to take the lead posting three.

With two out, Lucas Shawver walked. Eli Henderson came in as a pinch runner.

Camden Kauffman singled to keep the inning alive.

Cooper Walters loaded the bases with a walk, setting the stage for Gatlin Kauffman.

Kauffman did not disappoint as he singled in Henderson on a blast by first. Camden Kauffman scored on an error by Altoona, tying the contest at three.

Walters took advantage of a wild pitch, scoring MC’s third run of the inning.

The visitors tied the game at four in the third.

Both defenses took over until the fifth when Altoona would rally back to take the lead, 6-4.

With two outs, Victor Albarano walked as did Tyler McGough.

Both scored on a triple by Coletta Lucas.

Down but not out, Mifflin County battled back to have a big inning of their own.

Gatlin Kauffman singled past the first baseman.

Aumiller roped a 2-run blast, tying things at six.

Shaffer followed with a double.

Derek Wert lasted his own double, scoring Shaffer, taking back the lead at 7-6.

For the third time in-a-row, MC had yet another double. This time Zook sent a gapper into left, scoring Wert.

mifflin County added two more insurance runs, taking a 10-6 advantage into the final two innings.

Altoona was able to cut into the lead but the MIfflin County defense held strong, taking home the 10-8 victory.

The group from MC keep things rolling at 3-0 and head into the finals on Tuesday.
