MC boys fall on the road in OT thriller

Monday, the MIfflin County boys soccer team traveled to Waynesboro for a battle against the Indians.

Mifflin County played tough forcing the game into overtime time.

However, the Waynesboro squad would take the contest 3-2.

“We played an even first half with us having the run of play. We were missing that final drive in their box. There were certainly some questionable no calls that makes it very tough for players to get into a flow in a match.

At 4:45 into the second half, Jace Bagrosky trapped a ball, and took it upon himself to drive at their defense and finished our first ball. Then, 9 minutes into the second half they won a ball, shot, but then were rewarded a direct kick too which allowed them to finish a standing ball and tie the match.

“They scored a quick one after on a direct punt from their keeper that we should have tracked better, defended and attacked from our keeper forward.  Our boys then battled to earn a penalty, we saw, that was then deemed moved 6 yards outside to the side of the box,” said Peter. “Our boys didn’t let the fact that it should have been a PK phase us, and Bruce Baker played a gem in the air to Zach Keller to head home with authority and tie the match with 22 left. We then had a player make a great run into the box with the ball and then get run through from behind, by their keeper, in the closing minutes where nothing was called, not even to check on him as he was down behind the play. It was very frustrating for our boys and our coaching staff. But, we continued to battle the 11 on the field and the rest of the uneven situations that we were presented with and went to overtime for our third straight match. They scored when our biggest player, our center back, was illegally knocked to the ground in our own 6 yard box with no call and then they finished. It is very tough for a third match in a row to end like this for our entire squad. Our players are hurting and so are we and we can only hope that we see this as a learning way moving us forward when crazy, unheard of hurdles, (very high) hurdles are thrown our way. We have to find a way to let this make us better and right now that’s very tough for us to see. We will practice hard tomorrow as a team, and look to get ready for a tough Gettysburg squad on our senior night Wednesday.  We will honor a special group of seniors of our Mifflin County Huskies Soccer Program that have represented us very well these 4 hard-working years.”

Waynesboro outshot Mifflin County 7-6. Both teams finished with four saves each.

The Huskies led in corner opportunities by a 6-0 margin.

Waynesboro also took the JV contest 2-0.
