MC Eagles 12U battle to championship round at Wave Runner Tournament

The Mifflin County Eagles 12U baseball team recently competed in the Cal Ripken Experience Wave Rider tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. These boys battled mid 90 degree temperatures to play some top travel baseball clubs throughout the East Coast and a team from the US Virgin Islands.

The boys enjoyed an opening ceremony on Sunday afternoon in which they got to meet MLB great, Ozzie Smith.

On Monday they opened bracket play by losing to Marlborough, Massachusetts before bouncing back to beat Churchville, Maryland 9 – 7.

On Tuesday they opened the day with a 6 – 5 win over Saint Thomas Explorers of the US Virgin Islands before falling 9 – 8 to the Virginia Bandits. The boys trailed 8 – 1 but the comeback fell short in the last inning.

The 12U Eagles needed a win on Wednesday morning to advance to the championship bracket. They did not disappoint. They battled back from an early deficit to defeat Belleville, New Jersey 14- 8.

The boys entered the championship bracket of play Thursday morning needing 2 wins to advance to the championship game. They defeated Churchville, Maryland for a second time, this time by a score of 7 – 4. The Eagles then had to face their toughest opponent in the tournament, Kangaroo Court North from New York. They were beating their opponents by the 10 run rule all week. Kangaroo Court North was pushed to their limit but scored late to beat the Eagles 9 – 8; eliminating them from the tournament.

The Mifflin County 12U Eagles held their heads high knowing they let everything they had on the field. Players on the team were Cam Moore, Aiden Arnold, Jacob Bauman, Jayden Smith, Clay Ammon, Calin McKnight, Grady Hoppel, Madden Weaver, Brayden Sunderland, Bryson Hughes, Evan Strohecker, Owen Atherton, and Logan Alexander.
