MC Eagles open with 9-3 win over Happy Valley

It was a good start for the MIfflin County Eagles 9U team as they opened with a 9-3 victory over the Happy Valley Heat in game one of the MC Eagles Slugfest.

Despite being an 8 a.m start, the MIfflin County bats produced nine runs on seven hits while Happy Valley posted five.

MIfflin County’s offense was led by Chase Benfer’s 2-for-3 effort with RBIs. Teammate Brady Hack also finished with two hits, going 2-for-3 with 3run scored.

Others picking up hits were Brycen Watton, who also had 2RBIs, Kaleb Kirk and Josh Bell.

Happy Valley was led by a 2-hit performance by Harrison Meyer.

The highlight of the game came from the bat of Christian Wenger who smashed a 2-run inside-the-Park home run.

Rounding out the other hitters were Grayson Zinoble and Josh Musser.

MIfflin County opened the game plating two in the top of the first.

Max Trawitz opened with a walk as did the following batter Hack.

With two outs, Benfer sent a screamer back the middle scoring both Trawitz and Hack in the process.

Happy Valley’s defense closed it down from there in the inning.

MIfflin County held Happy Valley scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

The Eagles picked up another run in the second.

Ean Walters scores on a double steal, upping the lead to three.

Back came the heat and was able to cut the lead to one on the 2-run inside the park hit to right field by Wenger.

Cohen Johnson opened with a walk, and scored on a blast to Right, making it 3-2.

But the Eagles’ bats got hot in the third, plating another three runs to up the lead to 6-2.

Trawitz walked and Hack followed with a single, setting the stage for Watton.

Watton smoked a single back to middle scoring both of his teammates.

Two batters later, Watton scored on an RBI double.

MIfflin County was able to keep the Happy Valley Heat bats in check the rest of the way, allowing just a late run while its offense added three to its lead for some insurance run, taking a 9-3 victory with a game to go today.
