MC Girls battle to the end, falls 3-2 to Clearfield

They will meet again!
Despite trailing for the entire contest, the Mifflin County girls Major All-Star team came up just short after a 2-run rally in the final stanza fell just short of tying Clearfield in game one of their championship contest.
Clearfield needed all the runs they played, winning 3-2.
Mifflin County hit the ball hard but most seemed to be hit right at the Clearfield players.
Leading the offensively for the Purple and Gray was Dakota Hershberger who reached base all three times at the plate.
After being involved with catcher interference in the first, Hershberger came back and Si fled in fourth and an RBI single in the sixth.
However, Clearfield would collect a 2-run inning in the third and one in the fifth for the victory.
Both pitchers were strong on the mound as Clearfield hurler Alansa Fedder went the distance, allowing six hits and striking out five.
Mifflin County Arika Henry shines once again allowing just four hits while striking out four.
Early on Mifflin County has its chances early but would have a flare for the dramatics in the end to give Clearfield something to think about as the two meet in game two Friday.
Trailing 3-0 going into the top of the sixth, Kenna Yoder singled up the middle to lead off the inning.
After Yoder reaches base she was replaced by pinch runner Karlee Fake. Fake stole second and set the stage for Alexis O’Brien. O’Brien brought home Fake from second on a single into centerfield.
With one out, Hershberger brought her team one step closer to the tie as she smashed an RBI single into right center, cutting it 3-2.
However, Mifflin County came close but was stopped there.
In the fifth, Clearfield got an important insurance run.
With one out, Eva Bloom walked and stole second. Teammate Fedder walked as well.
A rare fielders choice that dropped into centerfield and Fedder was forced out at second while Bloom crosses the plate.
Mifflin County stopped the rally there and went into the final stanza trailing by three.
In the third, Clearfield got things going on a Mifflin County miscue.
She advanced to second and went to third on a sacrifice by Natalie Wischuck.
She would score on an RBI single back up the middle by Bloom.
Bloom later scored as well, giving them an early 2-0 advantage.
But the good news for Mifflin County is they will yet another chance to pick up a victory as they travel this time to Clearfield for a winner take all contest.
