MC girls Junior High XC team has solid effort at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG – The Gettysburg Invitational is always an exciting cross country meet since there are many good teams to compete against and it is later in the season after much of the athletes training has been at work. On Saturday, when the MIfflin County JH girls toed the starting line it warmed up to the low 50’s but there was still a stiff breeze in the air. When the gun went off, all five of the Huskies girls raced out for a fast start. “The course is a 2 mile course and is relatively flat,” said MIfflin County coach Neil Breneman. “I was thrilled they ran hard through both miles of the race. Most of them ended up running negative splits their second mile showing their determination to continue fighting hard as well as the development of their endurance that has come through their training.”

Abigail Anderson led the pack, breaking her personal record time from last year with a time of 14:32. Irelynn Milligan was also able to set a new PR coming across the finish line at 15:31. Kahlen McCracken, the team’s other 8th grade athlete, came in at 15:14.

“Our two new 7th grade runners for the team continue to progress in their training and run well. Bailey Bishop got her running career started running at the middle school in the Spring through the Girls on the Run program- Heart and Sole,” said Breneman. “She has worked hard and tied her PR in Gettysburg with a time of 16:10. Kasey Varner was very close behind her coming across at 16:43. It has been fun to watch their friendship grow through the season and push each other to get better during practices.”

The HS cross country teams also ran fantastic races at Gettysburg, however, they were having issues with the timing. Once the timing company posts times a press release will be issued.
