MC INSTANT CLASSIC: Undefeated MC 10Us tie Iron Valley

Call it an instant classic.

It was a battle of the unbeatens meeting Saturday as the first place MIfflin County 10U girls soccer team went up against second place the Iron Valley Unicorns.

What was at stake for the two teams going in were first place in the division and carrying on their undefeated season.

The game lived up to everything the stats showed it would be.

Both teams brought the A-game to the field as it ended in a 0-0 tie.

MIfflin County led in shots scored in the contest by a 17-7 margin, while MC goalie Taryn Hubler was clutch in goal with five saves.

Iron Valley’s goalie had seven in the tie. Both played a major part of their defenses success.

Coming out of the intermission, the Huskies came out strong as they drove the ball down into the Unicorns back-third Madelyn Yoder had the first shot on goal before Iron Valley would push it out.

Both teams went back-and-forth trying to establish a break in the others defensive side but none came.

MIfflin County barely missed putting its second shot of the half as Madelyn Yoder hit the side bar bouncing to teammate Grace Yoder. Yoder’s shot was stopped and the Unicorn dodged quite a momentum shifter.

Defensively, the Huskies shined as well as the back-third built a wall that prevented any good looks at a shot to send one in.

As the final minutes started to creep away, the Huskies again had a chance to win the game.

However, Lady Luck wasn’t having any of that when Kylinn Swineford hit the side post as well, barely missing the shot.

With less than 10 ticks left to go on the clock, Iron Valley has a breakaway shot that went wide right to end the contest in a tie game.

Opening the game it started out as a defensive battle and didn’t disappoint as neither team was able to break loose for an open look.

The game statwise was closer than the second as the Huskies only outshot the Unicorns 5-3.

But with still season yet to go, will there be another showdown looming?

If so, it could possibly end like it did in this contest as an instant classic.
