MC junior high XC battles at Sinking Creek

Battling rain and a narrow, confusing course with several sharp turns, the Mifflin County Junior High cross country teams competed fiercely Wednesday against Cedar Cliff and Cumberland Valley in a tri-meet at Sinking Creek Elementary School near Mechanicsburg.

Despite facing a 3-1 disadvantage in total number of runners, the Huskies’ girls gave both Cumberland Valley and Cedar Cliff all they could handle. MC’s Daliyah Bargas continued her dominance, finishing first for the third straight meet. Lillen Adams took sixth overall, and Maddy Yoder was eighth. Adalyn Lutz and Jakayla Colon rounded out the five Huskies’ finishers. While their opponents each started 16 runners in the race, Mifflin County held its own, narrowly bowing 26-33 to Cumberland Valley and 25-34 to Cedar Cliff.
In the boys’ race, Levi Anderson placed third overall in a field of 50 runners. Kenneth Swartzell was 13th and Adian Wible 28th. Due to low numbers, Mifflin County couldn’t score in the team competitions, but all three ran solid, near-PR races.
The Huskies return to their home course at Indian Valley Elementary Center next Wednesday, hosting Palmyra and Hershey. The boys will run at 4:30, with the girls to follow.
