MC School District sets Press Conference to update Multi-Purpose Sports Facility

BEING HELD AUGUST 10th

Lewistown, PA The Mifflin County School District is pleased to announce that we are a recipient of a $3 million grant from the Pennsylvania Department for Community and Economic Development”, stated Superintendent of Schools Vance Varner. Funds from the DCED Grant will be used to build multi-purpose athletic fields that will accommodate over 1500 students participating in field hockey, football, band, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, softball, and track and field.   Youth programs, including recreational league football, cheer, field hockey, baseball, softball, soccer track and field, and Special Olympics, would have access to these facilities.  Community members at large wouldalso have access to walking and outdoor exercise at the facilities.  

The project is a joint effort between the Mifflin County School District and a local group committed to raising the necessary funds to help make the much needed athletic upgrades a reality. Local businessmen Joel Diamond, John Pannizzo and the late Don ChapmanIII, have been at the forefront of the group that proposed the new stadium project to the Mifflin County School Board. Pennsylvania State Senator Jake Corman is also serving as honorary chairman for the group. Pannizzo stated, “This grant is a big step in the process which in the end will greatly benefit our student-athletes and the community at large.”

An official press conference is slated for Wednesday, August 10th at 2:00pm in front of Mifflin County High School in Lewistown. On hand to address the media will be Pennsylvania State Senator President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, Mifflin County Superintendent of Schools, Vance Varner, Athletic Director Tish Maclay, and John Pannizzo representing the group fundraising for the new athletic facility. The public is welcome to attend Wednesday’s press conference where more updates on the project and details on the grant will be announced.
