MC softball falls to Millionaires on last play of game

WILLIAMSPORT – The Mifflin County  Huskies softball team fell to Williamsport 8-7 on Friday on the final play of the game.

The game was tied at seven with Williamsport batting in the bottom of the eighth when Aubrianna Blair singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Mifflin County trailed by five runs in the second inning, but then fought back to lower the final margin.  The Huskies scored six runs in the failed comeback on a groundout by Riley Hine in the fifth, a double by Sophie McCurdy in the sixth, and a grand slam by Dakota Hershberger in the seventh.

Williamsport took an early lead in the first inning when Brenna Beck doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

The Millionaires knotted the game up at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Alexandria Chilson doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Mifflin County notched four runs in the seventh inning.  Hershberger had an RBI grand slam in the inning to lead the run scoring.

Williamsport scored three runs in the second inning.  The Millionaires big bats were led by Ashlyn Robinson, Abby Robertson, and Chilson, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Taryn Reed led the Williamsport to victory on the rubber. Reed allowed five hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Madison Wolfgang took the loss for the Huskies. Wolfgang went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits and striking out six.

Robertson started the game for Williamsport. The ace went five and a third innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out three and walking one

The Huskies socked two home run on the day. Hershberger had a homer in the first and seventh innings.

Mifflin County tallied 11 hits on the day.  Hershberger, Alexis O’Brien, and Hine each managed multiple hits for the Huskies.  Hershberger went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Mifflin County in hits.

Williamsport totaled eight hits.  Chilson and Blair each racked up multiple hits for the Millionaires.  Chilson led Williamsport with three hits in four at bats.
