By Kenny Varner

STATE COLLEGE – The Mifflin County track and field team opened its 2019 campaign against Mid-Penn foe, State College Tuesday night on the Little Lions track.

Mifflin County battled tough on both the boys’ and girls’ side but State College was too much for the Huskies on this day.

In girls’ action the Huskies fell 97-53 while the boys lost 110-40.

The Huskies coach Scot Sechler was very happy with the effort his athletes gave.

“I thought it was a good meet for us. Obviously when you face State College, you’re facing one of the best teams in the state. Their boys group were Indoor Champions,” Sechler said. “So when you have a meet like that out of the block is obviously a tough task. But I thought our kids competed well. They didn’t give up. We actually had a few kids this early flirt with their PRs already. Logan Renninger in the discus almost threw his best ever. Casey Laky in the discuss also had a great performance. Obviously, Chayce Macknair Seth Phillips, Brayden Harris and the whole long distance crew, do a great job. They are kind of our anchor right now. We’ll get there.”
