The young MIfflin County cross country team hosted a very veteran core of runners from Chambersburg on Tuesday.

On the girls side, the Lady Huskies battled strong throughout the line up but fell in a close 37-24 contest.

Kylee Cubbison again took the first place nod in the meet, finishing with a time of 19:44.

Teammate Addie Parson came in a close third with a mark of 22:00.

Chambersburg was dominant in the fourth through 18 spots while MIfflin County’s Justice Sheaffer managed to break out and post an 18th place finish with a mark of 25:19.

Sarah Diehl and Ava Wagner secured the 21st and 22nd spot with times of 28:58 and 30:58, respectively.

“Chambersburg had a great team with plenty of good runners to challenge each of our team members. Today’s race was a great opportunity to again acclimate to running in the heat, hitting a hot 86 degrees at the time of the meet. It was also a great time to work on trying some new strategies and for each of the girls to work on discovering what works and doesn’t work when it comes to pacing,” said MIfflin County coach Neil Breneman. “Kylee and Addie nailed it! They used good discipline to make some adjustments and put in good times considering the weather conditions. Not only that, they walked away with some good mental development which is every bit as important as the physical development. Sarah Diehl worked hard through the heat and finished the race feeling more confident and strong.”

MIfflin County was led on the boys side by Chris Roger’s fourth place finish time of 17:44.

Others finishing in the top 10 were Huskies Ben Hartzler (18:14), Caden Bell (18:28) and Cody Fultz (18:37).

The Huskies also had 14th and 15th times with CJ Coffey’s 19:18 and Luke Breneman’s 19:25.

Rounding out the top 20 finishes for MIfflin County was Dominic Reed who posted an 18th place time of 20:12.
