CLARION- Flying high to the next round.

The Bald Eagle Area football team showed it was a team on a mission Friday night as they won another heart stopping thriller, this time against the Sharon Tigers.

The defense had the historic moment for the team as it blocked a late extra point and interception to hold onto the victory and have them live to see another day in the 21-20 victory.

Playing in front of a group of around 1,000 who battled the cold at Clarion University, fans watched quite a show as the Eagles clawed out a victory Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter both teams scored two touchdowns in the second period.

Bald Eagle scored the first touchdown as they punched things in from 2-yards out on a run from Matt Reese.

With the Carter Stere extra point, the Eagles led 7-0.

Back battled Sharon and tied the game when quarterback Layne Voytik hit an open Ty Eilam on a 35-yard touchdown hook up, cutting it to a one-point deficit.

But a PAT by Jake Auchter tied the game, minutes later.

Later in the period, Sharon took the lead for the first time when Voytik found another one of his receivers in CJ Parchman on a 15-yard touchdown offering. With the successful PAT, Sharon had the momentum, leading 14-7.

Quarterback Jaden Jones brought his team back on the scoreboard, hitting Zeb Fry tying the game at 14 as the two teams went into the intermission.

Leading off the second half, the Eagles picked up an onsides kick, putting the first turnover of the new half. The ball was recovered by McClenahan.

However, the Eagles weren’t able to capitalize on the Sharon miscue and the game remained tied.

But McClenahan again made an ordinary punt return turn into six points as he blazed his way to a 50-yard punt return, making it a 21-13 ball game.

Still in the third, Voytik threw for his third TD pass of the night as he found Marcel Smith-Austin on a 23-yard TD pass, cutting it to a one-point lead.

Much like last week’s overtime win, the Tigers missed the PAT, giving the Eagles the lead.

This time, it was left up to the defense as Sharon set that would give tie the contest.

However, McClenahan and the defensive team would block the extra point.

The Eagles would later take home the 21-20 victory as they would take an interception to seal the game.
