ALTOONA – Mifflin County‘s Trey Kibe captured his third championship to lead the Huskies at the Northwest Class 3A championship on Saturday at the Altoona Fieldhouse.
Mifflin County advanced all three of its wrestlers to the Super Regionals, with Nic Allison (113) and Kyler Everly (145) finishing second.
Juniata‘s Casey Smith saw his sophomore season end with a third-place finish at 106.
Kibe (17-0) joined Trey Hartsock, Hayden, and Trent Hidlay as the only three-time regional champions in school history. A pin in the quarterfinals moved the Husky senior into second place all–time in program history with 75 falls.
Lance Urbas of State College was the victim in the finals. This time by a 7-1 decision. Kibe scored two takedowns in the second and one in the third, cruising to the victory. The win makes Kibe 8-0 lifetime against the Little Lion senior.
Kibe‘s road to the finals included a 1:57 fall over Erie Prep‘s Owen Shetler in the quarters and a 16-1 technical fall in 4:09 over Carter Chamberlain of Clearfield.
Allison (18-1) ran into a buzz saw in Jacob VanDee of Erie Prep in the finals. The defending regional champion scored four takedowns and six nearfall points to record the 14-2 major decision.
The Husky junior battled back and beat Bellefonte‘s Aidan O‘Shea by a 4-0 count for the true second. Allison collected an escape in the second and a three-point nearfall in the third.
Everly (15-5) dropped a 5-0 decision to top seed Riley Bower of Williamsport in the semifinals before battling back to finish second.
He got revenge on Central Mountain‘s Griffin Walizer with a 4-2 overtime win in the consolation semifinals. Walizer beat Everly the week before in the District 6 finals. The Husky junior pinned Clearfield‘s Karson Kline in 52 seconds to earn the right to wrestle for a true second.
Everly advanced to Super Regionals with a fall in 2:05 over Steffan Lynch of Erie Prep.
Smith (19-3) reached the finals with a win by injury default in 54 seconds over Clearfield’s Evan Davis. The Indian sophomore lost a tough 8-4 match in the finals to top seed Cael Nasdeo of Williamsport.
In the battle for true second, Smith dropped an 8-4 decision to Logan Sallot of Erie McDowell.
The West Super Regionals get underway Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in Altoona.
