MCs Spriggle, Yoder, Cubbison and Jackson sizzle at Igloo Invitational

ALTOONA – The Igloo has melted. With the 70-degree weather and the sparkling performances of the Best-of-the Best in local track, the 2021 track and field season kicked off Saturday for the MIfflin County Huskies track team as they competed in the 44th Annual Altoona Igloo Invitational.

It was a day where each competitor could go out and gauge themselves against the best of the best of numerous areas from around Pennsylvania.

“Overall I thought we had a pretty good meet. It’s been a long time since we e able to get out on the track and compete. Just to be able to be out and do anything now is a blessing,” said MIfflin County Co-Coach Scot Sechler. “I’m proud of the kids. They fought and never gave up. They worked hard and actually got some good performances today.”

Hurdler and high jumper Ella Spriggle finished the day with two second placed and a third.

In the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles,

Spriggle, blazed her way to a second place nod of 16.93.

She also placed second in the 300-Meter Hurdles with a time of

Girls 100 meter dash :49.39.

Rounding out her day, she finished 6th in the high jump with a launch of 08.00.

One of the cornerstones for this year’s team, Kylee Cubbison finished first in the 3200-meter run with a sizzling time of 11:42.95.

Cubbison was also a member of the Huskies’ 4×800 meter relay team that finished third on the day with a mark of 19:47.80.

A pleasant surprise for the girls team on the day was jumper and 400-meter runner Lily Yoder who finished in the top 10 in three events.

In the 400, Yoder finished ninth with a time of :66.38.

She finished seventh in the girls long jump with a leap of 14-11.00.

Rounding out her day, Yoder finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 30-09.50.

Rounding out the top 10 finishes on the girls’ side was Addie Parson in the 1600-meter relay where she finished sixth with a time of 5:54.40.

“I thought it was a great day. It was perfect weather. We knew coming into the year we were a little outgunned as far as numbers but the quality we have kind of came to the top today,” said Co-Coach Scott Gantz. “The big surprise was Lily Yoder. She actually placed in three events. So, we have a bright future. We have quality girls just not quantity.”

In the Boys 1600- Meter Run Brayden Harris paced the Huskies with a third place spot with a time of 4:31.34.

Also in the 1600, Cody Fultz, finished ninth finishing at 4:54.67.

Two was the magic number for MIfflin County in the high jump as Jayden Jackson finished third with a leap of 06.00 while teammate

Reagan Ettinger, finished ninth with a best 5-04.00.

The boys also got a top 10 finish from  Josiah Sechler in the 100-meter dash, notching a time of 12.13.

Teammate Benjamin Hartzler, finished with a sixth place in the 800-meter run finishing with a time of 2:12.98.

In the Boys 4×100 Meter Relay the team finished with a seventh place finish of 48.27 while its 4×800 relay team battled to a fourth place finish with a mark of 8:55.01.

In the 110-Meter Hurdles, Tanner Ferguson finished ninth with a time of 19.25.

MIfflin County will be home Tuesday against Chambersburg.

The girls also got strong finishes from Sophia Plank in the 100, with a 24th place time of 14.99 and a 29th place finish by Brielle Moon who crossed the line at 15.43.

Plank and Moon also competed in the 200 finishing with a 21st time of 31.23 and 23rd place finish with a mark of 31.61, respectively.

Plank would also compete in the 400 where she finished in 13th with a time of 70.19.

In the 800, teammates Presley Steinbach. And Rachel Saldubehere finished 24th and 25th.

Justice Sheaffer notched a 19th place finish in the 1600, posting a time of 6:55.88

In Girls 100 and 300 Meter Hurdles

Morgan Breon finished 11th, with times of 18.98 and 55.69, respectively.
