MC’s Strohecker and Penn FC Lightning capture National Championship

Call them the champs!!

Congratulations to the Penn FC Lightning beats Utah Celtics 2-0.  

The Lightning, who had local Mifflin County soccer standout Aubrey Strohecker starting in their starting line up, battled their way through a grueling five games in six days and won the Youth National Championship in Bradenton/Sarasota, Florida.

In first half, the Lightning stuck on a blast by Kristen Economopoulos.

After the goal, Penn FC’s defense hung strong and was able to keep the Celtics off the scoreboard.

It’s back third was able to strong tough and worked together to clear it to the very speedy offensive front.

When the two teams went into the intermission, the Lightning found itself just one period away from standing high on the podium.

After a very fast start by Penn FC, the Lightning pushed the ball constantly into the Celtic’s back-third.

After several runs at their opponent’s goal area, Alex Murphy was able to give her team the insurance it needed and for the last 33 minutes the Lightning would hold some constant traffic in their area.

With the win by the Lightning,

was the first PennFC team to make it to the USYS NCS Final game and also win it.

Way to go ladies!  Way to bring it home!
